The population of Sumatra Tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) is less than 100?

That number represents the estimated population of Sumatra tiger in the Bukit Barisan Rejang Selatan, portion of Bukit Barisan National Park in the province of Bengkulu.  Today, Bengkulu Ekspress, local leading newspaper, reports that a survey conducted by the Wildlife Conservation Society of Indonesia since 2007 revealed that the number of Sumatra tiger in that area is estimated to be less than 100 tigers. This society has surveyed 28 points of studies around this area where each point covered 17 km x 17 km of forest landscape. In the near future, the surveyors are also going to have similar study to the population of Sumatra tiger in other parts of Bukit Barisan National Park around Bengkulu, including in the Municipality of Seluma, South Bengkulu, Kaur.  Team leader of the survey, Hamzah Ritonga, explained that the population of Sumatra tiger will be re-surveyed in the next three years.
